Joan Wages, President & CEO
As President and CEO, Joan leads the organization dedicated to educating Americans about the diverse, historic contributions of women and raise awareness about the critical need for a national women's history museum in our nation's capital. As one of NWHM's founding Board Members, Joan has been a passionate and tireless champion of this effort for nearly 20 years.

Elizabeth Maurer, Director of Program
Liz Maurer has served as the Director of Program for the National Women’s History Museum since January of 2013. She is a Museum Professional who specializes in creating both hands-on and minds-on learning experiences for children, adults, and families. In her current role she creates historical content and programs that bring women’s history into popular culture. Over the years Liz has managed education programs and exhibits for the Colonial Williamsburg Foundation, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, and the National Museum of Crime & Punishment. Most recently she has served several museum clients as a consultant in the areas of strategic planning and science and history programming. She is a frequent presenter at professional conferences and an active member of several history and museum associations. She holds a bachelor’s degree in English and history from Albion College (Michigan) and a master’s degree in Museum Education from The George Washington University.
